Would you like to learn more in depth about ceramics than a workshop can offer? Or do you maybe want to make multiple mugs, or sculptures, or both? The Klei met Knook Course might be perfect for you!
In this 6- week course you will learn to make your own ceramics and decorate them with colourful glazes.
During sessions 1, 2 and 4 we will work with clay, and you will learn about different hand-forming techniques (without a potter's wheel). We will work on both functional objects (e.g. mugs and plates) and small sculptures (e.g. your sweet pet). When you have learned about these techniques, you can choose what you want to make: do you want to add colourful handmade objects to your tableware? Or are you really excited about making cute animals or weird creatures? You might even want to combine these two techniques! This is all up to you.
During sessions 3 and 6, your creations have been fired in the kiln and we are going to paint them with glaze: glazing for short! The glaze is what gives the ceramics such beautiful colours and makes them so shiny. But before we can admire them in all their beauty, your work needs to be fired in the kiln again, up to 1050 degrees.
During session 5, you will be given the opportunity to decide for yourself whether you want to sculpt or glaze.
The Ceramic Handbuilding Course takes place on the following Saturday mornings from 10:00 until 12:30:
mar 7, mar 14, mar 21, mar 28, apr 4 & apr 18.
Please note that we skip April 11.
There is also a catch up moment planned on the afternoon of apr 18 OR evening of apr 22. This moment is only for participants who have missed one lesson due to illness or other reason (for example if you have made plans for the entire easter weekend which includes apr 4).
This course takes place in Ilse's studio in Zwolle.
If there are multilingual participants, the course will be in English, with extra explanations in Dutch. If there are only Dutch speaking participants, the course will be in Dutch.
Your pieces will be fired for you at the studio, and you can bring them home when they are finished. You can pick up the pieces from the last sessions within approximately two weeks. It is also possible to get your last pieces shipped to your home, shipping costs will apply.
